DragonCon American Sci-Fi Classics - New Work!

I am very happy to announce that I will be a featured artist in this years American Sci-Fi Classics track of DragonCon.  They commissioned some new work based on some of the movie anniversary panels and will have the artwork blown up on large paper hanging in the track room all weekend.  I have 11x17 sized prints available on my Etsy site.  Only a few more days to Con!  Can't wait! Hope you check out some of the panels.  I will have some artwork given out during a few panels including being an official sponsor of the Dirty Dirty Con Con Game Show on Saturday night hosted by Phantom Troublemaker.

Epic Sci-Fi Foosball Game

Sleaze-Staxxx is a great local Atlanta band and you should definitely check them out.  I previously painted a painting for him a few years back.  I was stoked when he asked for another one.  This was acrylic paint on a 24"x36" canvas.

I've got a print of the painting on Etsy.  Check it out here: Epic Sci-Fi Foosball Game Etsy Listing.  I will have the prints with me next weekend at the Inman Park Festival (4/26 - 4/27).  Hope to see you there!

Re: Art Show & LIVE Podcast @ Odin's

I had a blast hanging out at Odin's Comics and recording a new Needless Things podcast with Phantom Troublemaker (blogger extraordinaire), Beau Brown (Bob &Carl Sci-Fi Janitors), and Bobby Nash (author and 2013 Pulp Ark Winner).  The Phantom Troublemaker has it posted on his site and it's available on iTunes.  I just recorded another one last night with the added bonus of a lot more alcohol.  I didn't go as well and hopefully my slurring will be fixed in post.

New Work - Dr. Who Tardis

Here's a couple of new paintings I just finished.  I had done a smaller Tardis before (6"x12") and I decided to go a little bigger.  Both are acrylic paint on stretched canvas.  This one is 24"x48":

And this one is 16"x20":

One of these days I'm going to do my take of the doctors.  I just need to watch more of the show 1st.  At this rate look for the doctor painting in 2015...

New Work - Warhol Princess Leia

Here's an Andy Warhol take on Princess Leia that I finished recently.  This was done digitally so it's one of the of my few pieces that didn't start as a painting 1st.

I just listed it on Etsy.  Check it out HERE.  The print is 11"x17" on white water color paper.  I got them printed at Mindzai and they turned out great.

Death Starry Night

It's been a good run.  I'm just about to the end of the original print run of Death Starry Night.  I've got about 10 left that I'm saving to frame.  While this is the last of the Death Starry Nights to be printed, signed, and numbered by me, it is not the end of the design.  I've got new prints (no longer numbered) printed by the fine folks over at Mindzai.  The prints are a little differently sized/cropped and will be approximately 8.5"x11" AND 11"x17".  Both sizes are now available on my Etsy shop.  Check them out!

In addition to the prints, I also have the design available as a magnet (hand pressed by me).

The Death Starry Night is my 1st print available in the 11"x17" size but it's not the only one.  I also have the Blasters N' Roses design available right now at this size.

Dragon*Con 2012

Dragon*Con 2012 was a blast. Even though I'm still in recovery mode, I can't wait for next year (and have already booked the hotel room).  Here are some of the things I saw/learned this year.

George Perez is the nicest/awesomest/best comic book artist in the world.  He is always very nice and seems to genuinely have a blast at the convention wandering the hotels and taking photos with fans.  On top of that he's one of the all time greatest comic book artists out there and I'm lucky to have gotten some convention sketches from him.

Georges Jeanty is pretty great too.  I picked up a couple of his Buffy prints last year.

There was a great representation of Atlanta artists including Third Half Studios, UrbnPop, Derek Yaniger, Red Rocket Farm, and HC Warner.

I ended up with Derek's Dragon*Con 2012 print below (image stolen from Needless Things' Dragon*Con writeup which is similar to this one only much better written).

R.I.P. - The Belligerent Monkey Office

We here at the Belligerent Monkey H.Q. have recently been blessed with a new addition to the family.  And like any addition to the family, they have to go somewhere.  And that somewhere was my office.  Today, my office is a beautiful nursery with a beautiful baby girl calling it her home.  But for many years it looked like this:

What follows are a ton of photos I took right before I packed up everything and moved it down to the basement (aka the Belligerent Monkey Office II).  I have a couple of bookshelves set up with some toys displayed but no where near like before.  Our next house is going to have to include a library for all of daddy's toys that the girls get to look at but not touch.  Click on the photos to see a much larger version.

Mattel Leaks Their SDCC Announcement

Last night Mattel accidentally listed their new DC Universe Classics subscription line.  This is one of their announcements they are making on Friday at San Diego Comic-Com.   I'll be signing up for it.  I will want the figures plus I won't have to deal with the white screen of death and horrible wait/refresh times on sale days.

Check it out:

If you haven't seen it yet, they've already released Volkswagen's Star Wars themed Super Bowl commercial. Pretty funny stuff...

Wizardworld Atlanta Comic Con 2010

When Wizard announced they were adding Atlanta to their convention schedule, I was excited.  It would be Atlanta's biggest true comic book convention.  Dragon*Con is a great and all but comics are just a small piece of the convention.  I got my 2-day pass really cheap because I ordered early.  Because of too many things going on this past weekend, I was only able to go on Sunday.

Distracted By Star Wars

The other day my post on my Star Wars found art was picked up and linked to by the fine folks over at Distracted By Star Wars.  The site is great.  It collects/posts all things Star Wars found on the net.  Go check it out and waste an hour or 2!
