2010 - The Year of Buffyclub

Over this past year, we have gotten together regularly with a couple of friends and watched all of the seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.  We started in January and will finish this week.  Going into it, I had never seen a single episode of either but had seen the movie.  I had a couple of friends who really liked the shows and 1 out of the 4 in our group had seen the whole thing before.  It wasn't long before I became a huge fan of the series and the characters.  I highly recommend checking out the series if you haven't yet.  The 1st season was a little weak but by season 2 it really got going.  I can't wait to finish Angel so I can start on the Buffy Season 8 comics.

Here are a couple of paintings I did of Buffy and Angel in the style of Bruce Timm (Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited).  Both are acrylic paint on 12"x24" canvas.

Here's a recent painting inspired by the NES.  It's acrylic paint on a 16"x20" canvas.  I've got another NES related painting that I will post soon.

Wizardworld Atlanta Comic Con 2010

When Wizard announced they were adding Atlanta to their convention schedule, I was excited.  It would be Atlanta's biggest true comic book convention.  Dragon*Con is a great and all but comics are just a small piece of the convention.  I got my 2-day pass really cheap because I ordered early.  Because of too many things going on this past weekend, I was only able to go on Sunday.

Re: I'm going to be in a movie (kinda/maybe)!

So I mentioned before that there is a chance some of my artwork may be in a movie.  I met someone who is working on the movie at the ICE Holiday Shopping Spectacular. He recognized my Batboy painting as one he had just hung for a scene.  He said that it was shown pretty predominately in the shot.  So there is a really good chance of it actually making it on-screen as long as that scene doesn't get cut.

Here is some more info on the movie via Disneydreaming.com:

ABC Family has announced a new original movie called “Always and Forever” (this title may change). The movie will star Sara Rue, Barry Watson, Valerie Harper and Fred Willard and is set to premiere on the television channel in the Spring of 2011. Filming for “Always and Forever” has already begun in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the movie Barry’s character, Pax, comes from the future, where there isn’t love. He visits present day New Orleans in search of romance novelist Elizabeth Barrett, played by Sara, whose book his culture found during an archeological dig in the year 3125. Pax hopes that Elizabeth will be able to describe the concept of love to him so he can bring it back to the future.

In the movie Valerie will play a colleague of Elizabeth’s, and Fred will play the character Bob who is Pax’s superior in the future who helps him go back in time.

“Always and Forever” is directed by Michael Lange (“Greek,” “Drop Dead Diva”) and written by James Orr and Jim Cruickshank while James, Rob Lee and Craig McNeil will be executive producers.

new work!

I've seen a bunch pictures of famous paintings with Star Wars elements photoshopped into them. I liked them a lot and decided to give it a try too. I was very happy with my 1st attempt (Death Starry Night) so here is my 2nd one. This one is based on Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World".

LEIA'S WORLD

I've got a couple more I've either started working on or thinking about. I will post them as soon as I finish.

New Art!

One of my favorite things about participating in art shows is the opportunity of trading art with other artists. At this years Indie Craft Experience Holiday Shopping Spectacular I traded some of my art for this:

Someone Named a Mixed Drink After Me

Apparently I have a mixed drink named after me. I just found this recipe for the Belligerent Monkey.

Ingredients to use:     3    beers
5    shots of vodka
                                                1    water

Directions:                  Put 3 beers in a pitcher. Add Vodka until it looks good then pour water mixed with "Country Time" Lemon Berry Sippers" Mix well and drink.

That sounds absolutely awful.  As the Belligerent Monkey, I officially reject that recipe in favor of my own.

Ingredients to use:     1    bottle of whiskey
                                                4    cubes of ice

Directions:                  Put 4 cubes of ice in a glass. Add whiskey. Drink.

Much better. Circle C! Circle R!

I'm going to be in a movie (kinda/maybe)!

Well, I won't be but my art might. I just sold a painting and some prints to be used as set dressing in an upcoming ABC Family movie. It's a new sci-fi romance made-for-TV movie titled "Always and Forever". They picked up some prints from the ladies over at Third Half Studios to use too.

Here is the only info I have on the movie right now:

Writer/Producer Jim Cruickshank and Writer/Director James Orr have penned the screenplay. Orr and Cruickshank first collaborated on the Walt Disney Pictures film "Young Harry Houdini" for which they both received Primetime Emmy Award nominations. They have since teamed up for such films as "3 Men and a Baby", "Mr. Destiny", "Father of the Bride I and II", and "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit". Cruickshank and Orr are responsible for a cumulative box office of over a half billion dollars.

I'll post more info when I get it. Hopefully you'll have some local Atlanta art gracing your TV sets soon! Here are the painting/prints to look for:

Just found out that my booth at the Cabbagetown Chomp & Stomp will be on Wylie Street this year. I'll be just west of the intersection with Tye Street. Here is the map. Looks like they are expanding the artist market which is causing the move away from the park.

Hope to see you there!

Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse

I had the pleasure of going to the Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse last night. I have to recommend it to any zombie fan out there. We went with the combo package which includes the main attraction and a chance to shoot some zombies personally. The main attraction is an intense total immersion into a zombie movie. You are led through offices, long hallways, courtyards, labs, and more by a military officer whose only goal is to get you to safety. If you are going to 1 haunted house this year, this should be it. Afterward we took the opportunity to shoot some zombies. I have to say there was something uniquely satisfying with getting a bulls-eye shot to the left eye of a zombie slowly lumbering my way. I definitely recommend checking it out. Here is the official trailer.

The Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse is open Thursday-Sunday, October 14-17, Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 21-24 and Tuesday-Sunday, Oct. 26-31, 8 p.m.-midnight or later. Admission is $20.00 per person. Shooting zombies with paintball guns is an additional $15 (combo ticket is $30), and parking $3 (to feed the zombies kept caged on display in the forecourt). For more information, go to the official website.

dragon*con

labor day is over which means i survived another weekend at dragon*con. had a blast. saw some great people, art, and things. next year i may look into applying for the artist room. it may mean less drunken debauchery but it may mean spreading the word of the cult of the belligerent monkey.
