New work! Star Wars / GNR Wood Cut

Here's my 2nd attempt at a wood cut (my 1st attempt is here).   The straight lines on this one were tough and I think I'll stick to more organic shapes from here on out.  It took some sanding to get the lines straight-ish.  But at the end of the day I liked how it turned out.  I think next time I will try a thicker piece of wood to get more of a 3D effect.   I have a print of the same design HERE and HERE.

re: Cabbagetown Chomp & Stomp 2013

Thank you to everyone that made it to the Cabbagetown Chomp and Stomp this Saturday!  It was a beautiful day and I had a blast.  Load in was a little rough.  I owe a huge thanks to all my friends that helped me set up in record time and watched my booth while I braved the lines for the port-a-potties.   Once I was set up it was a perfect day.

As always please send me an email if we talked to about a commissioned painting or purchasing something at a later dateYou can always go to my Etsy shop for select prints or magnets.  If you don't see what you were looking for them please let me know.  Thanks again!!!

New-ish Work! Zombie Wood Cutout

Here's a piece I finished a while ago (and by a while I mean 4 months ago).  I finally got around to attempting my 1st wood cutout using my new scroll saw (and by new I mean the one I got for Christmas).  It's acrylic paint on 1/4 inch plywood.  I liked how this came out and I'm in the middle of painting a new cutout.  I think I may try a little thicker wood next time to give it a little more depth.

Atlantaland Art Show @ Mint Gallery - Meet 'N Greet 10/4

I've got a painting hanging in the Atlantaland art show at the Mint Gallery.  This coming Friday they will be having a meet 'n greet with the artists.  I plan on attending for a bit.  Here's the info:

ATLANTALAND is an exhibition of 122 small works by Atlanta-based artists curated by Travis Smith. The artists were given identical 8x8" panels and free creative reign. The variety of resulting artwork is absolutely astounding! Each artwork is affordably priced at $80.

In lieu of a traditional artist talk we would like to invite the public to come talk to the artists! There will be art, conversation, libations, and plenty of fun to be had.

New Work - Welcome to Tatooine Princess Leia

I've gotten pretty slack about posting my new stuff lately.  I've got a lot of new things I've done over the past few months but not posted.  So in an effort to catch up here's a couple of new paintings/prints.  I've got a whole series of paintings in the style of the Leia one that I'll lump together in 1 or 2 posts.

I liked the background enough and think it stands on its own.  I lightened up the blue because the original Florida blue was a little too dark and the black was getting lost.

Re: East Atlanta Strut 2013

Huge thanks to everyone that braved the rain on Saturday and made it to the East Atlanta Strut.  Unfortunately it was a long day of rain sandwiched between 2 perfect days.  My tent reached its saturation point and sprung multiple leaks.  To prevent damage to artwork I had to pack up early.  I will definitely be back next year and hopefully we'll have much better weather.

For those people I talked to about commissioned paintings or purchasing something at a later date, please send me an email.  Or you can always go to my Etsy shop for select prints or magnets.  If you don't see what you were looking for them please let me know.  Thanks again!!!

Its 130+ paintings by various artists on the same sized square woodblocks.  Every painting will be $80.  I had 2 variations of a design that I wanted to use for the show.  I ended up picking 1 but still liking both.  I will probably print both at some point.  Here's what I went with:

And here is Option 2:

Re: Art Show & LIVE Podcast @ Odin's

I had a blast hanging out at Odin's Comics and recording a new Needless Things podcast with Phantom Troublemaker (blogger extraordinaire), Beau Brown (Bob &Carl Sci-Fi Janitors), and Bobby Nash (author and 2013 Pulp Ark Winner).  The Phantom Troublemaker has it posted on his site and it's available on iTunes.  I just recorded another one last night with the added bonus of a lot more alcohol.  I didn't go as well and hopefully my slurring will be fixed in post.

Free Comic Book Day 5/4/13 @ Criminal Records

Saturday 5/4 is Free Comic Book Day.  I am very happy to be a guest of Criminal Records for the day.  I will have some prints/artwork with me and will be sitting with some amazing local artists.  We'll be there from 11am to 6pm (although Criminal Records will be giving away free comics until they close at 9pm).  Criminal is a great place to buy comics.  They have been my comic book store since I moved to Atlanta 12 years ago.  They provide discounts to subscribers and have a great selection of new/old comics, graphic novels, and toys (and they sell music too).  Make sure you come out and meet some great local artists and score some FREE comics!

The comics run the full range of genres and demographics.  Plenty of stuff for the kids and adults so bring the family.

Free Comic Book Day is a single day - the first Saturday in May each year - when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. *Check with your local comic book shop for their participation and rules.

New Work - Dr. Who Tardis

Here's a couple of new paintings I just finished.  I had done a smaller Tardis before (6"x12") and I decided to go a little bigger.  Both are acrylic paint on stretched canvas.  This one is 24"x48":

And this one is 16"x20":

One of these days I'm going to do my take of the doctors.  I just need to watch more of the show 1st.  At this rate look for the doctor painting in 2015...

New Work - Phantom Troublemaker vs. Zombies Print!

I recently did a commission for  the Phantom Troublemaker household.   You can check out the original here.  He asked that I turn the design into a print as well so I happily obliged.  Here it is:

He will have some of these available at his various appearances.  And they are also available on Etsy.  Check it out here!

New Work - Warhol Princess Leia

Here's an Andy Warhol take on Princess Leia that I finished recently.  This was done digitally so it's one of the of my few pieces that didn't start as a painting 1st.

I just listed it on Etsy.  Check it out HERE.  The print is 11"x17" on white water color paper.  I got them printed at Mindzai and they turned out great.

Death Starry Night

It's been a good run.  I'm just about to the end of the original print run of Death Starry Night.  I've got about 10 left that I'm saving to frame.  While this is the last of the Death Starry Nights to be printed, signed, and numbered by me, it is not the end of the design.  I've got new prints (no longer numbered) printed by the fine folks over at Mindzai.  The prints are a little differently sized/cropped and will be approximately 8.5"x11" AND 11"x17".  Both sizes are now available on my Etsy shop.  Check them out!

In addition to the prints, I also have the design available as a magnet (hand pressed by me).

The Death Starry Night is my 1st print available in the 11"x17" size but it's not the only one.  I also have the Blasters N' Roses design available right now at this size.

Horrific New Work! Capt. Spaulding

Here is a new painting I did in anticipation of Days of the Dead - Atlanta.  I also painted a Leatherface for the show.  Both are acrylic paint on 16"x20" canvas.  Both are still available so just ask!

New Work - Leatherface!

Here's a new painting I recently finished (acrylic paint on 16"x20" canvas).  It's ready just in time for this coming weekend's Days of the Dead horror convention February 1-3 (Friday through Sunday).  I will be in the vendor room with a ton of new horror themed work in addition to my usual zombies and monsters.  I would've posted more pics of the new stuff but apparently I'm a terrible photographer.  I took a bunch of photos that looked fine on the camera but looked awful once I saw them full size.  I am far too lazy to unpack them and retake the photos.  So feel free to make fun of my lack of camera skills this weekend. I can't wait!

The vendor room hours will be:

Friday - 5 p.m. - 11 p.m
Saturday - 11 a.m. - 7 p.m
Sunday - 11 a.m. - 5 p.m

Happy (Belated) New Year!

I wanted to thank everyone for a great 2012.  I meant to post this on new years day (or thereabouts) but just didn't have the time to actually write it out.  Not having the time was somewhat of a theme to 2012.  Between work, family, comics, books, and video games there were times where I didn't pick up a paint brush for a few weeks at a time.

All in all 2012 was fantastic.  Thanks to everyone I met and everyone that had something nice/positive to say.  Thanks to the fine folks at the Village Theatre, Dakota Blue, and Criminal Records for showing off my stuff.  Thanks to Third Half Studios and Urbnpop for all the fun times at different shows/festivals.  And most of all thanks to my wife, family, and friends for the love and support.

2013 is already shaping up to be exciting.  I've got some new stuff in the works.  And I got a new scroll saw so I will be trying my hand at some wood cuts when it warms up soon.  The 1st convention is just around the corner with Days of the Dead in a couple weeks.  I hope to see everyone soon!  THANKS!

New-ish Work - Tardis

I have a few friends that are huge Dr. Who fans.  After hearing them talk about it enough, I finally checked it out.  We're still in our 1st season (so no spoilers please) but I felt inspired enough to paint a Tardis.  Check it out.  It's acrylic paint on a 6"x12" canvas.
